The Story:
Before
the 10th annual Computational Neuroscience (CNS; http://www.neuroinf.org/CNS.shtml)
meeting 2001 in Asilomar, CA, Jim Bower announced that he would resign as the
organizer of the CNS. During the 2002 CNS meeting in Chicago it was decided to
form a non-profit organization to run future meetings. [More history
here. (link)]
Current state of affairs:
The
newly appointed executive committee, together with the existing program
committee, are currently planning the next CNS meeting (Alacante, Spain, July
2003). The two committees are also discussing incorporation, appointments of
board members and other details. The immediate goals of the Executive committee
include:
(a) appoint a board in a joint
effort with the existing program committee (as of January 2003, a Board of
Directors has been appointed, see above)
(b) incorporate the Computational
Neuroscience (CNS) Organization.
(c) Participate, with the local
organizer and the existing program committee in the organization of the CNS
2003 in Spain
(d) Discuss and create budgetary
goals for the next 5 years.
(e) Secure grant money for the
continuation of the meeting (grant has been submitted to NIH by Phil Ulinski,
Chair of the Finance Committee).
