Neuralynx adaptor boards
Introduction
Neuralynx makes high-densiity electrophysiology
recording equipment. We needed to produce two interface boards to the hardware:
- A jumper board to invert the differential input. All this board does is
invert the plus and minus connections on 8 differential lines.
- Headers to make it easier to solder to the very small (0.05 inch) MillMax
connectors used by Neuralynx to custom electrode cables. We built several
versions
The boards
We used ExpressPCB software to design
the boards and produce them. To open the dsign files, you will need to download
software from ExpressPCB. The red and green images below are screen captures
from the ExpressPCB design software showing all the connections, text, and header
vias.
- The jumper board design file assumes that
the user will mount a standard 0.1 inch, 2-row header socket on the back of
the board (green side) and a 0.1 inch, two row header plug on the front.

- The headstage design file assumes that you will
mount a Mill-max connector to interface to the Neuralynx and either a DIP
plug or wires to go to the electrode array. The two adaptors to the left below
each use two DIP plugs. The middle adaptors use a single DIP and bring out
only 16 channels. The four to the right use direct wire connection. In the
top image, red connections are on top of the board, green below.
