A weekly discussion group for the evaluation of ongoing research projects - not necessarily finished products - in areas related to animal behavior.
Neurobiology and Behavior graduate students studying animal behavior are encouraged to sign up to present once every year, especially those students in their second year and beyond. Students, post-docs and faculty from any field are welcome to both present and attend.
Guidelines for Speakers
The goals of Lunch Bunch are (1) to help presenters refine and clarify their ideas and improve their research designs and (2) to foster communication between researchers investigating similar questions.
- Speakers should sign up by contacting Saundra Anderson (slf42@cornell.edu) to schedule a time.
- Presentations should emphasize (a) research questions, (b) hypotheses and their predictions, and (c) research design.
- Presentations should also include natural history information that is RELEVANT to the questions being asked and methods being proposed.
- Presentations need not be polished or formal; however, ideas should be well thought out and well organized. Emphasis is thus on the quality of ideas rather than the appearance of presentation materials.
- Data are welcome but NOT necessary. Work that is in progress is preferred to finished products.
- Speakers should expect to field MANY questions DURING their presentations. Accordingly, speakers should not expect to have time to cover more than about 30 minutes of material (the rest of the time will likely be filled with discussion).
- Speakers should feel free to cut off questions when discussion goes off track or misses the main point.
- Lunch Bunch official start time is 12:20 PM. If using Powerpoint, please arrive early enough to set up and work out any electronic problems by 12:20. Speakers are welcome to present material for as long as attendees stay, but should pause at 1:20 PM to give those who wish to leave the chance to do so.
